Want Major Record Deal? Maybe Not!

It’s no news that in today’s industry, getting a major record deal, is probably…not a big deal!

Today’s music industry is the revolution of the independents, due to new social music websites such as JamBuzzer and MySpace, which are helping up-and-coming artists get out and known, without the major labels. I think that we are going to see more and more artists doing deals with commercial companies as sponsors, and indpenedently, as the major labels are starting to lose their foothold on the industry, as well as their profits.

You can do just about everything you need to do to get your music out, on the internet. You can get your hip hop beats and r&b instrumentals, create a profile or website, and put the music that you created in front of potentially thousands, and even millions of hungry fans; and you can do all of this without spending hardly any money. In today’s digital music industry, music downloads are quickly knocking out CD’s as the standard form of music media.

Being signed can still have it’s advantages depending on what type of deal it is, but in most cases, you will probably get the short end of the stick.

Gone are the days of big advances and signing bonuses when getting a major record deal. First off, the big 4, the 4 true major record companies, are basically operating in the red, because of piracy, music downloads, and many other factors, some of which could be their own fault.

They also practically own you for the duration of the contract, so if you do sign, you should be sure that you are comfortable and trust in their desire and ability to take you in the direction of success.

But keep in mind, the opportunities today for independent music artists who can go out and hustle on their own are superb. It really doesn’t get much better than this…..until JamBuzzer comes out! (Had to get a shameless plug in their somewhere ;) )

Just always keep in the back of your mind, the best type of record deal you could get is the one where they find you becaue you are already making a big name for yourself without them. In this case, they will have to give you a sweet deal because you will have built enought to the point where you really could feel that you could do without them, so they would have to fear you turning them down, which causes them to have to make you the best offer possible at the time.

But if you are still extremely stubborn and stuck on going after a record deal, and don’t want to take heed to the advice that you should try to make it on your own first, then visit this link and invest just $7 in learning the proper way to go about it. EZ Record Deal

Adding Pop Beats into Your Portfolio?

Yes, you read that right. I will say it again; Consider adding pop beats into
your arsenal of hip hop and r&b songs…

Today’s ‘digital age’ of the music industry is also the ‘technology age.’ As a result of these things, the sound of urban music is also evolving. Of course you want to keep your roots, but you also want to cast your bait so you can catch the fish and reel them in.

It doesn’t hurt to add something different into your mix. You may have already built up a decent sized library of songs recorded to rap beats and hip hop instrumentals, and even some r&b instrumentals. Now its time to try something new and different, if you haven’t already.

The major artists are already trying it. As it seems that the standard urban styles of hip hop and r&b are slowing down, artists are expanding their reach to broader audiences, and even starting to make more universal music.

The standard format probably will never die, but there’s nothing wrong with staying current as well.

I have even noticed that the number of searches conducted on the internet for the rap beats, hip hop instrumentals, hip hop beats, and rap instrumentals have decreased dramatically. This actually provides you with an opportunity: Less people are trying to rap, so the door could possibly open wider for you to become successful.

The whole trend of the music game is changing, and with change comes opportunity to capitalize. So get your beats, record your songs, and get ready to jump on the opportunity that the digital age of music downloads and viral marketing are about to bring to your career.

The Changes of the Music Business…Part 1

Be Ready to Adapt to the New Way of Doing Music Business…

This is a subject that I want to address because it is becoming more and more important for not only record labels and management, but also for music artists, especially those of you who are independent. We are witnessing the death and destruction of the ‘old ways’ of doing business in the music industry.

We live in a world where you can download songs and listen to free online music without searching hard. Now there are 2 sides of you that may analyze this. There is the music lover and fan part of you that appreciates the fact that you can listen to songs and download songs without worrying about spending your hard-earned money on a CD that only contains 1 good song, and 15 garbage album ‘filler’ songs. But then there is the part of you who is a music artist, trying to make a living in the music business, and this is the part of you that worries about this changing trend.

After all, you work hard on your music to give people quality material so that they don’t feel like they wasted their money when they bought your Album, right? Why should they go download your songs or even be able to listen to your songs for free with all of the work you put in?

I’m here to tell you, that you should not be worried about this, it can actually be a good thing. The problem is, the 4 Major Record Labels don’t seem to want to let go of the old non-efficient ways of running the business. They are losing profits, but in my opinion, they are wasting more of their profits in lawer fees trying to sue kids and shut down websites that allow users to download songs.

Understand this; I am all about us as artists and producers making money, but in order for us to really make money and establish our brands, we have to adapt to the changes that are going on, because right now I can’t see a way to completely stop people’s desire to listen to songs online.

The way it is looking, music downloads are not going to stop. So we have to use them to our advantage to reach a broad number of fans all over the world, and come up with a way to profit by letting these fans listen to songs and download songs…in some cases, for free.

So how do we do this?

Stay tuned for Part 2…. ;)
