Promoting Your Music with YouTube

AaronBeats.com Presents...Promote Your Music With YoutubeIf you haven’t been living in the wilderness over the past few years, then you should already know what youtube is, and I shouldn’t have to spend anytime explaining it. There is something that I must point out though; youtube can be a tool that can help you promote your music to the masses. But instead, most of you probably spend more time watching than participating.

YouTube offers you independent artists an opportunity that artists in the past have never had. The internet in general offers so many options for you, whether you are selling you music downloads, or just trying to build your fanbase. The internet and all of the changes that are occurring in internet music technology is also partly responsible for driving millions of fans to search for new indie music that has not yet been discovered.

So as your online ‘virtual producer,’ I am going to be conducting a case study of different ideas and ways to promote your music using YouTube.

See? Just when you thought all I was good for was giving you hip hop beats and r&b instrumentals… ;)

I may even put together a video showing how to do some of these things in the near future when I get some extra time. If you would be interested in it, then let me know; or if all you come here for is rap beats and r&b beats, then that’s cool too;)

But for now, I want to cover a few things in regards to YouTube. I first want to give you an story/example of a recent event that took place for an artist as a result of this mega video site.

There is a rock/alternative/pop artist by the name of Mia Rose. Like you, Mia Rose, From YouTube to NextSelectionMia was an artist with dreams and aspirations to become something great, and besides all of that, she just liked making music. Did I mention that she also is very talented? You may feel that you’re talented as well, but talent alone will not do everything for you.

So Mia figured, if the world wasn’t going to come to her town to hear her, then she would bring her show to them. So she created an account on youtube, not to sit around and watch videos all day, but to make videos of her own and perform in front of people all over the world.

Here is one key that made it work even better:

She didn’t just stand in front of the camera and sing, she made it interesting by playing the guitar while singing, and also recording in areas where the background set a mood for what she was performing.

Now I know a lot of rappers are going to say ‘I don’t play the guitar!’ and a lot of you may just stand in front of the camera holding your bawls and rapping…but that’s not going to get ‘er done! That’s not going to hold the interest of people watching, and it’s not going to cause people to send the video to their friends and embed it on their profiles.

But back to our story about Mia…

These home-made music performance videos of Mia’s started getting thousands of views, and as a result got so popular that they started showing up on the front page of youtube! At that point, the views for some of the videos went from thousands to hundreds of thousands…to millions!

Not only did she start building a fan-base of music listeners, but she also started building a fan-base of some industry people.

Ryan Leslie, President of Next SelectionOne of those industry peeps was Ryan Leslie, President of Next SelectionCassie, Next Selection Princes Entertainment, who also happens to be one of my favorite producers as well. Well, Next Selection, who was responsible for the huge success of international superstar princess Cassie, ended up signing Mia Rose to the label, as a result of her youtube success!

Now some of you will try to say she was ‘lucky,’ but what is luck?

Here is my simple formula that describes luck.

Preperation + Consistence + Faith = Luck

Mia was prepared for success, she was consistent in her efforts to promote herself, and she had faith that she would succeed even in times where it seemed unlikely. But don’t get it twisted, now is when the real work begins for her, but she will be successful, because she has already laid a solid foundation.

You too can build a strong foundation and set yourself up to receive ‘luck.’

HAAA!!!….and yawl thought I was only about makin’ beats ;) I’m spittin’ that Aaron B philosophy on yawl peeps! Chyyyeeaaahh!!!

More on this subject coming soon…stay tuned
